This is a clearly written and well-edited book that will be of great assistance to the surgical trainee and consultant surgeon. It is not just a reference work to consult when a difficult diagnostic problem presents itself, although for that purpose it is of inestimable value – encyclopaedic and practical. It is also an excellent companion to the studies of the trainee surgeon – encouraging him, or her, to think laterally and fostering the lost art of differential diagnosis based on the presenting clinical features. … this is an excellent book. My one regret is that I did not have it as a guide and companion throughout my surgical career. I recommend it to trainee and established surgeon alike.
