About the Author: Dr Chirag J Desai is a senior GI, HPB and Liver Transplant surgeon at Ahmedabad, India for 20 years. Currently, he is a Chief Consultant and Program Director in the Department of Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant Surgery at the Apollo Hospitals International Ltd, Ahmedabad, India. He is a recipient of Overseas Scholarship for Living Donor Liver Transplantation awarded by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, UK. He is pioneer in liver transplantation in the state of Gujarat and has to his credit: 1st Living Donor Liver Transplant, 1st Paediatric Liver Transplant, 1st Liver Transplant without Blood Transfusion and 1st Combined Liver Kidney Transplant in the state of Gujarat, India. He is also on the panel of examiners for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, UK. He has been an office bearer of many national and international associations including Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology (IASG) and International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, Indian Chapter (IHPBA-IC). He is also appointed as Honorary Gastroenterologist, Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant Surgeon to HE the Governor of Gujarat.In future, his aim is to promote concept of Organ Donation and make liver transplantation available and affordable to a common man.
