This book has been conceptualized keeping in mind that the postgraduate trainees not only need a good guide for their examinations, but also they will step out into the real world of medical practice as Consultant Surgeons. The purpose of the book is not to spoon-feed the readers with answers to all questions but to provide clues and information, so that the students can perceive the concepts and produce their own answers.
The questions have been arranged chapterwise, and I hope that it will not only guide the MS (Surgery) students, but the DNB Surgery examinees shall also benefit from it.

In my short teaching career, I have seen that postgraduate students of surgery get little time in preparing the answers of theory paper. Besides, during their 3 years’ training course, they do not appear in any theory examinations except in few institutions. It is also very difficult for them to write answers to long questions in brief.

Nowadays, some questions have also started coming from recent advances and current journals which are not easy to answer for them as they are yet to come in textbooks. I have collected questions from different AllMS, DNB examinations, different state health universities, and a major bulk from the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and grouped them according to chapters.

• So, in this book, I have tried to give an idea of point-wise answering of short notes and brief answering of long questions in a simple manner.
• I also wanted to illustrate how to approach a clinical question in the theory paper.
• I have also addressed the topics found only in journals.

I request all postgraduate students that they should use this book as a guide while referring to their textbooks in order to build up the answers on their own.
