There are flourishing medical colleges and expanding medical profession in our country, so is the growing mental illness globally. In this scenario, these mentally ill patients visit tradional faith healers or multi-disciplinary physicians with several complains most of which are somatic. It becomes our duties as medical professionals to prevent those patients with unnecessary battery of investigaions and long-term use of benzodiazepines. In view of this scenario, it becomes very important to train our MBBS graduates for handling common psychiatric illnesses in periphery and local hospitals. We have taken special care to meet the needs of graduate students and at the same time the need for the newer postgraduate sutdents have also ben taken care of.
This book is organized into chapters and their sub-chapters, which are arranged as per International Classification of diseases (ICD-10). A great care has been taken to include all topics needed for students of MBBS and MD Psychiatry. Commonly needed chapters like phenomenology, psychiatric emergencies and non pharmacological treatment are specially focused unlike other books available in the market. The language used in this book has been kept as simple as possible.
In addition, we understand the need of competitive entrance examinations for medical students. The beginner MBBS students who are more inclined toward multiple choice question need to be well versed with it. So, we have included multiple choice question and case based questions in this book that are generally asked in MBBS/MD entrance examination. thereby, it is needless to say that these question would be good practice for students who are appearing for medical council examinations.
