Like the previous two volumes (1 and 2), this volume (3) also covers a wide range of topics beginning with ‘Basics of Reproduction’ and ending with ‘Practical Guide to Quality Management in ART Clinic in Indian Context’. In between, contemporary clinical, embryological and fundamental areas of infertility treatable by ART and non- ART protocols have been elaborately discussed in different chapters of this book.
The two most non-ART treatment protocols in infertility management are •ovulation induction and •Luteal Phase Support. Clomiphene citrate is still the most commonly used drug for ovulation-induction approved by FDA. Realizing its ‘limitation’, some researchers have suggested and introduced aromatase inhibitor (letrozole) as an alternative to clomiphene citrate, although this drug to be used for ovulation-induction is yet to be approved by FDA. The merits and demerits of these two drugs have been thoroughly discussed in different chapters of this book “Recent trends in ovulation induction” and “Is letrozole better in ovulation induction?”Another controversial topic is luteal phase defect, the controversies exist from definition, its reality of existence and, therefore, the relevance of treatment of LPD in clinical practice. These points have been exhaustively discussed in related chapters of this book.
